2013 Season Well Underway
Well done to all Clubs for fielding teams in every grade.  It is wonderful to not only see all grades represented, but most teams are competitive and we don't see the thrashings that we saw only a few years ago.  Our competition has become even and it has been difficult to predict the winners in each round.  This has been the result of hard work by Club committees who have gone out and recruited quality players.  You should all be congratulated and let's look ahead i...

Grandfinal day is drawing closer!!
As the Mid Gippsland Grandfinal day draws near, we would like to congratulate all players, coaches and trainers for the 2012 Season.  Unfortunately, we can't all be there playing in the grandfinal so special mention needs to be made for those that do.  This year we see another total dominance from the Morwell East and Newborough clubs, who are making 5 and 4 grandfinal appearances respectively.  The only other two clubs represented are Mirboo Nth and ...

Qualifying and Elimination Final
Mid Gippy finals began on a cold, windy and wet weekend.  Our host clubs, Boolarra and Yarragon, were both warm and inviting.  Boolarra's display of balloons, representing all teams that were to play on the day, looked beautiful and festive.  Officials and scorers were looked after, benches provided and all in all, we got through the weekend without a hitch.  Next weekend's finals will be held at Trafalgar and Mirboo Nth respectively and we hope to see everyone there...

Finals are here!!
The 2012 finals series are about to begin with a healthy representation from 9 of our 10 Clubs.  This year we have had a great competition between so many more clubs than in previous years.  Congratulations to all of those Clubs who have put in the hard work to go out and recruit players to make their Clubs stronger and more competitive.  It has certainly paid off!  Good luck to all teams in the finals. Saturday's Qualifying Final will be held at Boolarra 15's Yarrago...

A reminder that a Rules discussion for finals will be held Monday 13th August at Morwell East Netball rooms for coaches and interested players.  Meeting will start at 7pm and should go until about 8.30pm.
State Association Championships
Wishing the 17 & Under team and Open team all the best in the upcoming Association Championships to be held on Sunday 24th of June at the State Netball/Hockey Centre.
Interleague Versus Alberton
At our recent Interleague game against Alberton, both 17 & Under and Open teams played a skilful game despite being extremely wet conditions.  Although the 17 & Under team went down to Alberton, they played hard right to the end and never gave up trying.  The Open team fared much better with a good win over their opponents, managing to put a stop to a strong finish by Alberton.  We are expecting this to be the start of an Annual event where we can showcase our netballers a...
Mid way through the 2012 Season
As we approach the midway mark of our 2012 Mid Gippy season, the final 5 places are far from set.  A Grade is a fantastic competition as any number of teams have shown they are capable of being finals contenders with the most exciting teams - Boolarra and Yarragon, giving all the top teams a run for their money.  It is wonderful to see Clubs come back from not being able to field an A Grade team, to being strong teams in our league.  It shows that anything is possible and we all c...

Round 1 starts with a Bang!!
With many Clubs in our league actively going out and recruiting players for their teams, 2012 will hopefully bring on more competitive and tightly contested games. It is encouraging to see that most Clubs experienced some sort of success on the day with mixed results across the board.  To view how your Club went, please click on Results and Ladders and for further information on games played, click on the icon to the left of the team.  Looking forward to hearing plenty of ne...
Hill End versus Mirboo Nth
With a massive scoring 2 nd quarter, our A Grade Tiger girls set themselves up for a big lead at half time. With all eyes on our newly formed A grade team, they didn’t disappoint with their determination to play out 4 hard quarters.  The inclusion of several new players to the Club, these girls played together for the first time like they had been playing with each other for years. Congratulations to Hill End for not only being able to field an A Grade team, ...
Interleague Match V Alberton League
Interleague: Saturday May 26 th MGFL & MGNA will be playing at Meeniyan against the Alberton league.  The MGNA has played against Alberton for the past few years in the ERSL competition, so we are expecting great contests form both sides.   We will be entering an Open and a 17/under team.  More information will be sent to club delegates and in the Spectator in the next few weeks.
Kicking off Season 2012
Without anyone available to take over the Mid Gippy website, I have decided to try and update the site with the help from you - the Clubs.  I would appreciate photos and any news on your expectations, teams, new players/coaches etc. Please email your news to rogers.angelina.a@edumail.vic.gov.au and I'll do my best to include interesting articles so we can use this website to its potential.  At the same time, if there is anyone out there who would like to have a try at doing this t...
Eastern State League
During the February and March months of 2012 we had two groups of talented Mid Gippsland netballers represent us in the Eastern State League Competition.  Both teams made it to the finals series with the 17 & Under team making it to the Grand Final.  The competition was tough with the girls coming out runners up to a very strong and finely tuned team in Sale.  Congratulations to all girls, coaches, scorers, umpires, carers and team managers who helped throughout the competiti...
Jess Hilliar wins MVP Open Eastern State League
Jessica Hilliar from Mirboo North took out the prestigious Open MVP award at the recent ESL competition.  In a competitive field of players, Mid Gippsland had two representatives in the top three players - Anna McGlade from Boolarra being another contender. Jessie's accurate goaling and quick delivery of the ball placed her in good sted to take out the coveted award.

MORWELL EAST TAKES JUNIOR TITLES
MORWELL East won both the junior grandfinals of Mid Gippsland netball at the weekend, defeating Yinnar in the 15&U division and Mirboo North in the 17&U division. The Hawks outclassed the Magpies in the 15&U section, showing why the club is such a force to be reckoned with. A solid victory first up was the first of four premiership trophies to go the way of the East. It was a little closer in the 17&U division, but still Morwell East proved too strong. Results: A Grade – Mo...
HAWKS TOO GOOD IN A GRADE
GOALING accuracy and intense defence were the difference between Morwell East and Mirboo North, who played off in the MGNA A grade grandfinal at the weekend. Morwell East came out strong and were more accurate in the shooting circle. The East established a lead early and never looked back, the scores at the final whistle showing the Hawks 11 goals up. The win makes it back-to-back premierships for the East, and back-to-back runners-up trophies for Mirboo North. Results: A Grade – Morwell E...
TIGERS TAKE B GRADE
Mirboo North`s mix of experience and youth proved a winning combination with the Tigers taking out this year`s MGNA B grade premiership. Morwell East got off to a quick start, but the Tigers refused to give up and clawed back the early margin to win by a sound six goals. Morwell East`s defence proved hard to penetrate, but patience and a high work rate by the Tigers centre-court players paid dividends. ONE EACH WAY
Newborough`s young guns proved they have what it takes when they faced Morwell East in the MGNA D grade grandfinal at the weekend. The Bulldogs were overjoyed to win the match by four goals and claim the premiership trophy. But the tables were turned in C grade, with the Bulldogs going down to the Hawks by a bigger-than-expected margin. Perhaps succumbing to finals pressure, the Bulldogs shooters - on fire throughout the home and away season - had difficulty hitting their target. The Bulldogs` d...
GRANDFINAL COUNTDOWN
EVEN before the first whistle this Saturday, Morwell East has earned the title of most successful on-court club in the Mid Gippsland Netball Association, with all six of its teams to make a grandfinal appearance. The Hawks will face Mirboo North in A and B grades and the 17&U division, Newborough in C and D grades and Yinnar in 15&U. Morwell East coach Jenny Mills said the club had managed to take all of its teams to a grandfinal for five years running and said it would be a dream to tak...
THORPY GETS SERIOUS
TRAFALGAR’S 17&U team and Newborough’s experienced C grade side – both undefeated throughout the 2010 season – went down to hungrier opposition in the second semi-finals held at Boolarra last Saturday. It was Mirboo North that issued the wake-up call to Trafalgar, winning by a healthy five goals, and Morwell East that took the points against Newborough, with a four-goal victory in time-on. Both teams – the Bloods facing Morwell East and the Bulldogs coming up ag...
BULLDOGS BOW OUT
NEWBOROUGH A Grade’s finals campaign is over after the Bulldogs went down by just three goals to a determined Thorpdale in the MGNA elimination final held at Yarragon at the weekend. In a tight match in which the fortunes of the game went with the centre pass, both teams goaled accurately and gave nothing away. MGNA president Jenny Mills said Thorpdale got a break late in the last quarter and was able to pull ahead of Newborough to take the match and continue its finals campaign. The Blues...
HAWKS & TIGERS THE TEAMS TO BEAT
NINE clubs will be competing in the finals series of Mid Gippsland netball, with all competitors looking to knock off Morwell East, which at the end of the season is in either first or second position in all divisions and has dominated the competition in recent years. The Hawks again proved they are a force to contend with at the weekend, taking six games from six at home to Boolarra. Mirboo North also looks dangerous, winning each of its encounters against Thorpdale last Saturday. The Tigers ha...
JENNY SAYS THANKS & GOOD LUCK
It seems like yesterday that the season started and here we are already getting ready for our final series. Congratulations to clubs who have made finals and congratulations to clubs who haven`t done so well on court, but have managed to field teams, get umpires, go to meetings and organise trainings for more than 18 weeks of 2010. Anyone involved in running a club realises the hard work that goes into getting teams onto the court week after week. It is great to sit back especially after a home ...
C, D and 17&U DOWN TO THE WIRE
The final five have already been decided for Mid Gippsland’s A, B and 15&U divisions, but will come down to the last match of the home and away season, this week, for the C, D and 17&U divisions. With wins to Newborough, Trafalgar, Morwell East, Yarragon and Yinnar in C grade at the weekend, three teams are still in contention for the fourth and fifth positions. Mirboo North’s C grade, currently in sixth position and four points behind both Yarragon and Trafalgar, has the eas...
THORPY STAKES ITS CLAIM
THORPDALE’S A grade surprised Newborough and the rest of the MGNA competition with a 12-goal victory at its home ground at the weekend. The win by the Blues is as good as a guarantee of a finals berth for season 2010. Thorpy is now one game ahead of Trafalgar on the A grade ladder. The Bloods, as expected, lost to Mirboo North, although the margin was just five goals. Both Trafalgar and Thorpdale have one bye each in the next two weeks and Thorpdale is highly unlikely to win against Mirboo...
EAST TAKES TOP SPOT
MORWELL East scrambled back to top position with a healthy win over Mirboo North in Mid Gippsland A division netball at the weekend. Though Mirboo North was missing some regular players, the win is a great confidence booster for the Hawks as they build their campaign for another A grade premiership. The Hawks took the points in every grade other than B grade, where the Tigers came from behind to win by just one goal. Mirboo North spokeswoman Rachael Vansittart said the Tigers were very excited t...
BLUES & BLOODS NECK AND NECK
THORPDALE and Trafalgar are neck and neck in the fight for fifth position and a place in this year’s A grade finals after the Bloods went down by just two goals to Newborough at the weekend. Meanwhile, at Yinnar’s home ground, the Blues posted a convincing win against the Magpies to keep its finals hopes alive. Both teams are on equal points and unless there is an upset, the fifth position looks set to be decided on percentage. Thorpdale currently has the edge. The Blues will be look...
DEES` FIRST WIN; EAST UPSETS NEWBOROUGH
Boolarra broke through for its first win of the season in A grade while Morwell East upset Newborough’s perfect record in D grade in Mid Gippsland netball last weekend. In what proved a feisty encounter between the Demons and arch rivals Yinnar, Boolarra held on to take the match by four goals, despite a big last quarter from the home team. Both Yinnar and Boolarra now have one win for the season, but the Magpies remain ahead of the Dees on percentage. Both teams will be looking to make th...
GAME 12 RESULTS: NO SURPRISES
There were no surprises in the latest round of Mid Gippsland netball’s A grade encounters at the weekend, with Mirboo North accounting for Boolarra, Morwell East defeating Thorpdale and Trafalgar taking the points against Yinnar. However, both the Demons and the Blues will take great heart from improved performances on their round 1 results. The Demons, who lost to Mirboo North by 40 goals in round 1, reduced the margin by more than half in what was the WorkSafe/VCFL’s Victorian matc...
BOOLARRA V MN IN GAME OF THE MONTH
ALL eyes will be on Boolarra and Mirboo North this weekend, who will meet on Sunday rather than Saturday for the WorkSafe/VCFL’s Game of the Month – a first for the Mid Gippsland Netball Association and Mid Gippsland Football League. Boolarra is hosting the round, which aims to showcase all that country football has to offer. There will be a host of family activities, raffles and competitions, and a real finals atmosphere. Special guests will include AFL legend Ron Barassi, who will ...
JUNIOR SQUAD COMPETES IN FINALS
The MGNA 17&U squad competed in the state association finals recently and did their region proud. The team played five games, finishing fourth. It won two games, drew one and lost two. Unfortunately in the final minutes of the last game Emilee Ruddell was injured during a collision with an opposition player. Saskia Heathcote from Trafalgar (15&U) filled in admirably for Michaela Windsor, who was unavailable. Saskia shot some great goals. The team is looking forward to the next three tour...
NEWBOROUGH TESTS TIGERS
MIRBOO North scraped home with a two-goal win over Newborough, while Morwell East trounced Trafalgar – bettering its first round result by an additional 31 goals – in Mid Gippsland A grade netball at the weekend. The results mean Mirboo North retains top spot on the MGNA ladder – ahead of Morwell East by four points – but the Hawks have a much higher percentage. It was a fine effort from Newborough, which holds the fourth position in A grade but has half the number of win...
BIG FOUR THE ONES TO BEAT
MIRBOO North, Morwell East, Newborough and Trafalgar have proven themselves the teams to beat at the half way mark of Mid Gippsland netball’s season 2010. Morwell East, which had six wins from six against Boolarra at the weekend, is sitting comfortably in either first or second position in all but the 17&U division, where it is currently third on the ladder. But in A grade it is Mirboo North leading the field with a one-game advantage over Morwell East. The Tigers holds first or second...
MG SQUAD WINS THROUGH
The Mid Gippsland Netball Association’s 17&U representative squad has earned a berth at the Victorian zone championships, to be held in Melbourne in June. The MGNA squad finished in second place to a polished Alberton unit at the Eastern Region zone tournament, held in Bairnsdale on Sunday. MGNA president Jenny Mills said the team proved itself a real force, despite the late withdrawal of shooter Mirboo North’s Hayley Rogers. “Our shooters Mikki Windsor and Ashlee Farmer we...
MORWELL EAST STRIKES BACK
Morwell East stamped out any doubt that they are eyeing off another A grade premiership with a resounding win over Hill End in Mid Gippsland netball at the weekend. Bouncing back after a four-goal loss to Mirboo North the previous week, the Hawks travelled to the Hills home ground, delivering a 23-goal victory and completing a perfect round of six wins from six for the polished club. Morwell East spokeswoman Jenny Mills said the loss to Mirboo North had proven a great motivator. “With at t...
MG SQUAD COMPETES THIS WEEKEND
The Association would like to thank all the many girls who tried out for a position in the MGNA 15&U and 17&U representative teams for this season. Coaches were kept very busy and had many sleepless nights trying to pick teams from the many talented players that were on offer. A special thankyou to our Coaches Development Officer, Donna Hoare, for the fantastic job she has done organising trainings, collating everyone`s details and running coaching courses. Donna has been very busy over ...
TIGERS TAKE TOP SPOT
Mirboo North’s A grade sits on the top of the MGNA ladder, one game clear of both Hill End and Morwell East, after the Tigers defeated the 2009 premiers at the Morwell East home ground. Mirboo North, undefeated in the A grade division so far this season, took out the game 37 goals to 33 in what was the tightest A grade game for the round. The results push Morwell East to third position on the ladder, after Hill End (which had the bye at the weekend). These two clubs will meet at the Hills ...
DEMONS: RELIEF AT FIRST WIN
Boolarra’s 17&U team snuck home by just one goal against Hill End, providing the Demons with their first win of the season across all grades in Mid Gippsland netball. While Hill End proved superior in all other grades – their A grade team showing exceptional form and that it is a real finals contender in 2010 - a Demons spokeswoman said the club was delighted to have broken through for its first win of the season. It was a round characterised by close contests and balanced result...
ASSOCIATION SLAMS BAD BEHAVIOUR
MGNA president Jenny Mills says poor behaviour - such as foul language and nasty play - by both junior and senior players is ruining enjoyment of the game for other players, officials and spectators. Ms Mills said reports of “undesirable behaviour” in recent weeks had been disappointing. The association has forwarded the Netball Victoria Code of Behaviour to all clubs and has asked them to distribute this to their players, coaches and umpires. “These documents should not be tak...
JUNIOR SQUADS SELECTED
The Mid Gippsland Netball Association has announced its 15&U and 17&U squad teams, which will compete in Eastern Zone tournaments to be held from May through to August. The teams, two in the 15&U age group and one in the 17&U age group, will face their first test at the Loud Eastern Region Association Tournament in Bairnsdale on May 30. MGNA junior development officer Donna Hoare thanked all players for attending the tryouts and congratulated those selected to represent the assoc...
YINNAR`S PAULINE COULING CLOCKS UP 300 GAMES
YINNAR celebrated the achievements of 300-game veteran Pauline Couling with straight wins against Boolarra at the Demons home ground at the weekend. Couling, who took the court for the Magpies A grade side, helped her team to a 17-goal victory, completing a perfect round of netball for the visiting MGNA side. It is one of a string of achievements for the club life member, who is a six-time best and fairest award winner with Yinnar and has played in four premiership sides. The Magpies began brill...
MORWELL EAST, MN MAKE INROADS
MORWELL East and Mirboo North continued their winning ways taking six wins from six in game three of Mid Gippsland netball. Morwell East travelled to Thorpdale and took every game comfortably, with the biggest margin being 53 goals. In A grade, the final whistle sounded a 19-goal victory to the Hawks, but Morwell East coach Jenny Mills gave credit to the Blues and warned that other Mid Gippsland clubs would be remiss to underestimate Thorpdale’s capacity in season 2010. Thorpdale was missi...
GREAT START FOR BIG 3
MORWELL East, Trafalgar and Mirboo North added some wind to their season 2010 sails with wins in every grade for game two of Mid Gippsland netball. Morwell East, at home to Yinnar in 27-degree heat, posted convincing wins in all six games to emerge, once again, as a strong early contender. Trafalgar also had a good day out when it played Boolarra at the Demons home ground. It won six games from six, with the closest margin between the two clubs an 18-goal victory by the Bloods in C grade. The De...
YARRAGON NETBALLERS MAKE A PERFECT START
YARRAGON had five wins from five games against Boolarra at the weekend, making it the most successful start to the season in eight years for the struggling MGNA club. While Boolarra put up a good fight in the B grade match, better shooting accuracy saw Yarragon take the points with a three-goal win. Yarragon is still without the numbers to field four senior teams (it has no A grade this season), but the club is positive about its future. Yarragon’s netball president Paula Borsato said mora...
